Abdelhak Lab is a pioneering research facility specializing in body fluid biomarkers associated with neurological conditions, enhancing knowledge about disorders like multiple sclerosis.

Our lab, led by Dr. Abdelhak, utilizes advanced techniques to investigate neuroinflammatory diseases, bridging clinical practice with innovative research to support healthcare professionals and researchers alike.

Our Journey Begins

The Birth of Abdelhak Lab

Founded by Dr. Abdelhak, the lab started with the vision to improve understanding of multiple sclerosis and related neurological diseases through innovative research and advanced technology.

Dr. Ahmed Abdelhak is an Assistant Professor and Attending Physician in the Division of Neurobiology and Glial Biology at UCSF’s Department of Neurology. He obtained his medical degree from Ain Shams University in 2012, followed by neurology residency, a clinical Ph.D., and neuroimmunology training at Ulm and Tübingen University Hospitals in Germany. Dr. Abdelhak also holds a master’s degree in Neuroscience from Bordeaux University. In 2024, he completed a postdoctoral fellowship in translational neuroimmunology at Ari Green’s lab.

As an expert in body fluid biomarkers for neurological conditions, Dr. Abdelhak’s lab focuses on the clinical and translational application of state-of-the-art biomarker technologies to uncover mechanisms behind central nervous tissue injury in neuroinflammatory diseases, focusing on MS. The lab employs a range of targeted biomarker platforms, including enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays (ELISA), electrochemiluminescence, and single-molecule array (Simoa). Additionally, the lab has substantial experience in leveraging targeted and discovery proteomics (e.g., Olink) to advance the understanding of neurological and systemic conditions.
